Shipping Pigeons by Air Cargo
August 11, 2020 — Delta's Air Cargo program is still allowing shipment of pigeons during this COVID period, but they require the flight to be nonstop (no layovers) until further notice. Delta Cargo has the same, pigeon-friendly requirements for carrying pigeons in cargo, and allow up to 70lbs in weight for one large "kennel" (or wooden boxes attached together). This is better than United's PetSafe had in the past, which is no longer servicing pigeons as pets. Recently Delta Cargo stopped flying pets, including birds, using their express DASH service. This is not a big impact on your travel except to know you must now be at the cargo facility three hours in advance of the flight departure and the connecting flight must allow for two hours between flights. The rates seem relatively the same. There may be other airlines such as Alaska that allow pigeons as check-in for additional fee; however, they may also require a health certificate by a vet within 10 days of the flight.

Delta Cargo does fly into the Louisville airport. The Cargo facility at 4650 Air Freight Drive Bay 15, Louisville 40209. Call to see if they're operating in January (currently closed).

Third District Young Bird Show October 24, 2020 CANCELLED
The Louisville Pigeon Club voted to cancel the National Young Bird Show scheduled for October 24, 2020. The 3rd District Young King Show would normally be held in conjunction with this venue.
This decision was made due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the Kentucky State Fair and Exhibition Center and in consideration of the safety and health of exhibitors and visitors.
